Broc Cellars, Cuvée 11.9 Syrah, Monterey County, Monterey

Named after the ABV of 11.9%, this is not your ordinary Syrah. The grapes are picked around two weeks earlier for a lower sugar content, and then undergo partial carbonic maceration. The result is lighter than normal, although it still offers up layers of red fruits such as redcurrant and raspberry, with some black pepper and herbal hints. A delightful medium-bodied wine that has grace, purity and finesse.
