Seven Kingdoms Wines, Game of Thrones Red, Paso Robles, 2014

This red is a blend of eight varietals, including Syrah and Tempranillo, grown in Paso Robles, California. Here we have spicy vanilla, cherry and bramble aromas which lead into a surprisingly moreish palate with a slight hint of woodiness to the texture. Red fruit and sweet spices are joined by a warming sensation from the alcohol, which takes you into a heady but relatively short and dry finish with hints of violet and tobacco. Probably best not to drink this alone at 14.7% - instead invite some friends around, order a pizza and share the bottle to ensure you make it through the latest episode.
