The Schug family (now headed by siblings Axel and Claudia) have made this exclusive parcel for The Society's Exhibition range from cool-climate grapes on the Sonoma Coast side of the foggy, windy Carneros appellation. Good-value California wines are hard to come by in the UK, so his is a great buy for the price, offering concentrated but not heavy flavours of red cherry liqueur and sweet oak spice, refreshing acidity and soft tannins. Elegant, juicy and balanced.
