Channing Daughters, Ribolla Gialla, Long Island, New York, USA 2019

Only 0.2ha of this Ribolla Gialla is available to the folks at Channing Daughters and is done with whole berry and wild fermentation outside the winery. It spends a few weeks on skins before being punched down by a shovel. Then, it's moved bucket by bucket into barrels; it's blended and filtered before bottling – aromas of honeyed apricots, ginger and chamomile flowers. The palate is fresh, clean and compelling. Flavours of honey, gingerbread and ripe apricot. It is a delicious and undeniably drinkable ‘orange wine’ that may be a gateway wine for those unsure about the style.
