History:
Chateau Balestard La Tonnelle is one of Saint-Emilion’s oldest estates, and its wine praised in poetry as far back as the 15th century. The word Balestard is believed to derive from a local clergman of the time, while ‘La Tonnelle’ refers to an ancient tower in the vineyard. In the 1920s, the property belonged to M. Berthon, but subsequently passed to the prominent Capdemourlin wine family following the marriage of Roger Capdemourlin to Berthon’s daughter. Today, Roger Capdemourlin’s son Jacques is in charge.
