History:
Camensac’s 20th century rejuventation – after vine disease, war and the economic slump of the early decades – came relatively late. It began in 1964, following acquisition by the Forner family who had gained experience of winemaking at the prestigious Marqués de Cacères winery in Spain’s Rioja region. A major program of renovation and modernisation followed, plus a thorough restoration of the 18th century manor house. The revival of this Château – just one of five in the Haut-Médoc appellation ranked in the 1855 classification – has been boosted by the services of two leading oenologists, Emile Peynaud and later Michel Rolland (who left only in 2007 to pursue his own venture). The Forner family continue to maintain the property’s place among the classed growth of the Médoc.
