History:
During the reign of Louis XIV, the de Sauvage family (they had been long-term tenants, and built the existing château) became owners of Yquem. In 1785 Françoise Josephine de Sauvage d’Yquem married Count Louis Amédée de Lur Saluces – soon to be victim of a fatal horse-riding accident which set his widow on a long and remarkably successful period of management. Yquem prospered greatly and remained in Lur Saluces hands until 1999 when LVMH acquired a major holding – appointing present manager Pierre Lurton in 2004. D’Yquem is and always has been a sublime wine, fully deserving its ranking above all other Sauternes châteaux.
