History:

The 18th century Château La Tour Blanche is justifiably proud of its ranking in the classification of 1855, coming second only to Yquem. It also stands out for its unusual proprietorship which dates back to the early 20th century. In 1909 retiring owner Daniel ‘Osiris’ Iffla decided to bequeath the property to the French State, stipulating that a wine school be created alongside the vineyard. Two years later the La Blanche School of Viticulture and Oenology was established – and to this day the name Osiris appears on the La Tour Blanche label. Despite the estate’s dual role, the vineyard retains its top-league postion and barring a slight downturn in the mid-1900s has latterly returned to form under the direction of Jean-Pierre Jausserand (since 1983).
